Be the difference! There are several ways that volunteers can assist and make an impact at the hospice:
Anticipatory Grief Support
Volunteers provide anticipatory grief support to individuals whose loved ones are currently ill and/or provide bereavement support to those who have experienced the death of a loved one.
Complementary Therapies
Complementary Therapy Volunteers provide support and relief to individuals managing physical discomfort and pain related to their illness and to Caregivers who utilize complementary therapies as a form of respite or to manage the physical manifestation of stress.
Resident Support
Resident Support Volunteers provide one-to-one support to the hospice residents by offering a friendly visitor, respite, practical support and even a listening ear to an individual living with the challenges of a life-limiting illness.
Kitchen Support
Help support the residents and their caregivers by preparing homemade snacks and meals. Training in food handling will be provided.
Office Support
Volunteers in this role assist with the daily administrative operations of the hospice. Responsibilities may include answering phones, greeting visitors, mailings, filing and other administrative duties.
Fundraising & Community Outreach
Volunteers are needed to assist with fundraising events and community outreach activities. Shift availability is based on the scheduling of these activities and may be intermittent throughout the year.
All volunteers will receive receive a 30 hour Core 1 – Introduction to Hospice and Palliative Care Training, recognized by Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO).
