On October 25th more than 450 people attended the Grand Opening of the Margaret Bahen Hospice for York Region. We were delighted to provide so many tours to interested people from the community including local residents. At the ribbon cutting ceremony we were honoured to have Tony Van Bynen, Mayor, Town of Newmarket, Geoffrey Dawe, Mayor, Town of Aurora, Kim Baker, President and CEO, Central Health Integration Network, Dr. Arnell Baguio, Medical Director, Margaret Bahen Hospice and Susan Mullin, President and CEO, Southlake Foundation.
On November 1, the Margaret Bahen Hospice welcomed its first resident and by December 1 we have increased to 6 residents. We expect to be at a full capacity of 10 residents by January, 2018. Our hospice volunteers and staff have come together as a team and are providing exceptional care to all of our residents.
Our fund raising program is also starting to move into action. Each year, the Margaret Bahen Hospice will need to raise $700,000 per year to cover the cost of the operation of the Hospice.
